The STC method helps schools to select and sustainably implement effective prevention programs that are tailored to their needs.
STC is introduced into a school gradually in six phases. The phases build on each other and represent a "roadmap" for the development of an impact-oriented prevention strategy in the school.
The phases are:
1. Clarify readiness
Is there a willingness on the part of the school administration and the teaching staff to apply STC?
Does school social work support a common prevention strategy?
2. Organize
Who takes responsibility for the STC process?
Are the key decision-makers on board (school management, student representatives, parent representatives, school social workers, prevention teachers)?
Which external actors (school authorities, school authorities, police, independent providers, advisory centres, associations) need to be involved?
3. School profile: risk analysis
Which risk and protective factors are important for the development of children and adolescents in school?
Optional: What stress factors affect teacher satisfaction and the school climate?
Which of the different factors can be changed together?
4. School profile: strengths analysis
How well is the existing prevention program in the school?
Are the services targeted at the most important risk and protective factors for children and young people?
Are effective prevention programs in place?
Where are there gaps and overlaps in the prevention services offered in schools?
5. Create an action plan
Which existing prevention programs and services should be strengthened in schools?
What effective new programs are needed?
What verifiable goals exist for the offerings at school?
6. Implement and evaluate
How can prevention programs be implemented with good quality and reach?
How can resources (e.g. according to Section 20a SGB V ) be mobilized for the activities?
How can the services be sustainably anchored?
How are (intermediate) results determined during the implementation of prevention programs and how can they be adjusted?
