Move! is a national physical functional capacity monitoring and feedback system for Finnish 5th and 8th grade pupils. It produces information that can be combined with the extensive health check-ups performed for the 5th and 8th grade pupils. The main purpose of the system is to encourage pupils to independently take care of their physical functional capacity.
While children’s and adolescents’ physical activity has decreased, also their physical ability to manage daily challenges has deteriorated. Due to this, in many cases school-age children’s physical functional capacity is not sufficient to deal with everyday situations.
The starting point for the national Move! system was to first determine what physical functional capacity is and for which everyday challenges pupils need physical functional capacity. Based on today’s pupils’ needs, a monitoring system was created to produce information about pupils’ functional capacity and to encourage pupils, parents and professionals to improve the situation.
>A physically active life style and the positive experiences gained from the physical tasks enhance psychological well-being and health. These are the building blocks for a positive physical self-image, which also supports the general self-image. Based on all this, the measurements include six sections, which describe the physical functional capacity.
