The study “Health behavior and accidents in school age” (Gesundheitsverhalten und Unfallgeschehen im Schulalter - GUS), duration November 2013 – June 2021, is one of the largest child and youth studies in Germany, which is also designed as a longitudinal study. As part of GUS, the health and accident biographies of 10,000 students nationwide from the fifth to the tenth grade were traced in order to determine the causes of accidents and injuries in the school context, but also of unhealthy behavior.

GUS aims to provide impulses for school accident prevention and health promotion. On the website, comprehensive information about the study is provided. On the Science and Public pages, some details about GUS can be found, for example sampling, panel design and analysis strategy as well as the methodological approach. The GUS newsletter, provides information about current developments surrounding the project during the GUS field phase. Finally, you can get an idea of the researchers involved and the scientific support group. All associated publications on the individual subject areas of the project can be found on the GUS publications page. You can access the overall results report for all six survey waves on the Results page. The research data collected in the project was prepared for reusability in accordance with the FAIR principles of good data management, documented in detail and published at the research data center of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi). After concluding a data usage agreement, you can download the data for scientific purposes and carry out your own analysis.
