More than half of respondents (56 percent) see an increase in psychological violence among students after the pandemic; 44 percent perceive an increase in physical violence

84 percent of respondents state that violence prevention is anchored in their school's curriculum.

One in twelve student accidents at general education schools is related to violence. Violence prevention is therefore also an issue for statutory accident insurance and its providers. In 2023, there were around 65,000 violence-related student accidents, which equates to around 7.5 violence-related accidents per 1,000 insured children and young people. An accident is only counted if it resulted in medical treatment. Most of these accidents occur during recess. They affect boys far more often than girls – by a ratio of around three to one. Violence-related accidents occur most frequently in the 10- to 13-year-old age group, followed by 14- to 17-year-olds. However, the accident insurance statistics only record physical violence. Psychological violence, such as insults or verbal abuse, is not reflected in the statistics, as it usually does not lead to a visit to the doctor. Scientific studies and surveys are necessary to shed more light on the situation in schools
