The United States of America’s (USA) Department of Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Administration carry out activities in the area of training and education. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Directorate of Training and Education manages and develops the implementation of OSHA’s national training and education policies and procedures. The OSHA Outreach Training Programme is a primary way to provide training for workers. Through the OSHA Outreach Training Programme, individuals who complete the courses are authorised to teach. The aim of the programme is to educate OSH trainers based in the USA, who are then authorised to teach OSH courses in construction or general industry safety. During the past 3 years over 1.3 million students have received training. To become an authorised trainer, it is mandatory to complete an OSHA trainer course. There are two main courses: one for the construction sector and one for the general industry. In addition, up-date courses are available.
