Training activities cannot be carried out in process plants which are in operation. Instead they are practised in a 3D Simulator with interactive operation facilities. In this way, “on-the-job training” and “learning under realistic conditions” are achievable. The 3D Simulator SAVE (Safe, Acting, Virtual and Experience) is used for this purpose. The computer simulates the corresponding refinery landscape and the equipment. The consequences of incorrect operations can be represented to scale. Close attention is also paid to the use of protective equipment according to specification. Experience has shown that a very high learning effect and a considerable improvement in safety awareness can be achieved with this training method.
