İSGÜM was founded in 1968 as a sub-institution of Directorate General of Occupational Health and Safety in the constitution of Ministry of Labor and Social Security by the agreement between Turkish Government and ILO in the scope of International Programme for the Improvement of Working Conditions and Environment (PIACT).


İSGÜM is the only public organization executing workplace measurements and biological analysis together; besides evaluating the results in the scope of occupational health and safety. It displays activities with the central laboratory in Ankara and five regional laboratories throughout Turkey. The staff is composed of engineers, physicians, chemists, biologists, physicists, statisticians, assistant experts of OHS, nurses and technicians.


İSGÜM is the national centre of CIS, which is the OSH information center of ILO since 1987.

Main Objectives and Tasks of İSGÜM are:

- Carrying out field and laboratory studies and developing proposals regarding OSH,
- Developing standards and norms in the field of OSH,
- Supporting small and medium sized enterprises,
- Planning OSH trainings for different target groups,
- Preparing publications and documentations about OSH.


For reaching these basic objectives, İSGÜM:

- Deals out measurements and analysis regarding OSH,
- Arranges co-operations with national and international organizations,
- Gives OSH trainings and consultancy when necessary,
- Prepares statistics in the field of OSH.
