Raising awareness of soft and loud noise

The speech “You are, what you listen to!” or the theatre “Threatened by the noise mafia…” offer an effective noise experience for teenagers aged 15 years and serve as an introduction of the theme noise.

The speech communicates knowledge in an entertaining way. The pupils learn how noise impacts people. With the help of a public address system trucks and cars seem to boom directly through the class room. At the end out of a sudden silence appears again, calmness is noticed. Sound waves damaging hearing are not in the centre of interest however sounds which are experienced as noise and which have an impact on psyche and health are considered: noise as disturbing sounds exhaust, make nervous and raise blood pressure. With the example of traffic noise, future car drivers learn how to prevent the impacts in conclusion.

The theatre communicates the same messages, however uses other instruments:
  • pupils fill the auditorium, the laboratory is in the front, trendy music is added to. On the beamer pictures of spirals are displayed. In a while slogans are heard. Noise gives power
  • only the one’s who are loud, are
    …squeaked today
  • noise yourself to freedom
  • all power to sound
  • all’s well that noise well
  • I like noise
