“Safe School with PZU”

“Safe School with PZU” consists of three parts.
  • First part “First steps on the road” addresses pupils in 0-3 classes in primary schools and teachers of primary learning. Its objective is to encourage pupils to learn traffic rules and regulations. In this part pupils and teachers can participate in attractive competitions regarding safety on roads.
  • Second part “My bike license” is intended for pupils in 4-6 classes in primary schools and secondary schools, and for would-be-owners of bike license. Its aim is to deepen the knowledge about safety on roads.

    Third part “Our School” it is a competition for head teachers, parents, and local governments. Their task is to prepare a project which improves safety nearby school premises. All projects must be in the form of professional drawings or photos. The schools should cooperate with geodesist and local governments. Prepared map should include vicinity of school premises – streets, pavements, car parks, gates, playgrounds, traffic signs and lights, zebra crossings, and also pupils routes. On this map school should mark its proposals, e.g. additional traffic signs and lights, safety barriers. Each conclusion and proposal must be also explained and justified.

Results
Within the framework of program above million books were given to children in schools. In cooperation with experts video documents and computer programs were prepared. Specialists created also special portal where children could find many games, crosswords, riddles, and interactive plays. “Safe School with PZU” enabled teachers, local governments, and local society to recognize threats nearby school premises and improve safety of their pupils. In the first part of program classes were sending artworks regarding safety on roads. 3 out of 11 000 works were chosen and rewarded. Winners of competition could go to Legoland in Denmark. In the third part of program schools were sending theirs projects. The committee chose 10 out of 645 projects, which were to be worked out by professional project studios.3 best projects received money for realization to the amount of 80.000, 50.000, and 25.000 €

Evaluation / exploitation of results
In the school year 2005/2006 above 7 000 primary schools took part in “Safe School with PZU”. Above million children participated in this project. In general, teachers and pupils consider the program as very useful. Above 98% of schools carried out lessons in safety on roads.70% of participants estimated materials as very good.76% of people considered the program as helpful for safety on roads.According to 90% of participants children were eager to take part in the program.
