Homes are more and more dominated by advanced-technology appliances, do children know the hazards hidden in household appliances, power cords, electric outlets? Can they tell healthy food from junk food? At school, at the park, in the road hazards are everywhere, and often children are not ready to face and especially to recognize them. It is not enough to prohibit, to forbid, to warn: “do not do it, do not touch, leave it alone”. It is necessary to educate to prevention, to explain, to let them understand, to show how to use dangerous items.
Danger and hazard management should be one step towards personal growth and should not create uncontrolled anxiety. It is never too early to introduce children and teenagers to the issues related to safety. One of the most effective ways of inducing correct and responsible behaviours is by stimulating the sense of self-responsibility and responsibility towards other people.
