Källby Gård is a comprehensive school with children from 1 to 12 years old. The school was the first in the world to be awarded the title of safe and secure school, according to the criteria set up by the WHO, on the 24th November 2003. The school has been a model for work with accident prevention. In order to create secure and safe environments, the school has developed a plan of action to promote the children’s security and safety in both the physical and psychosocial environment.

Preventing Behavioural Disorders and Promoting Social-Emotional Competence in Preschool Children Tackling the Risks for Violence and Addiction

PAPILIO is a program in kindergartens for early prevention of behavioural problems and support of social-emotional competencies for kindergarten children. The program is based on knowledge gained from developmental psychology and counteracts the risks of violence and addiction in the long term. PAPILIO has been conceptualized and evaluated in the frame of a longitudinal study with more than 700 children, 1,200 parents and 100 kindergarten teachers. Project partners are betapharm foundation, Robert Bosch foundation, Free University Berlin, University Bremen, University Augsburg and the Augsburger Puppenkiste, which is a famous string- puppets- theatre.

¡A salvo! (Safe)

The “¡ A salvo!” (Safe!) campaign directed at primary education students aged from 6 to 12 years in all schools in Castilla y León and was developed to increase the children's awareness and attention to safety. Its objective was to create a new preventive culture by acting from the first stages of education to promote awareness that safety is socially desirable and must be defended by all, and by promoting an attitude change that contributes to the development of health and safety habits for all and benefits everyone.

On this website of the Accident Insurance North Rhine-Westphalia, children, pupils and other visitors can click through a unique virtual model of a school or a kindergarten. Users can find out a lot about safety, risks and technical details.
The kindergarten has several floors and shows rooms inside and outside, the school shows corridors, classrooms and specials rooms for chemistry, biology and more. Even a natatorium and a gym can de visited.

The Independant Institute for environmental questions (UfU) in Berlins offers a a collection of materials about "Noise and Listening", which will be available for all teachers in Berlin and which consists of literature, concepts for lessons, CDs with practice examples, work sheets, videos, excursions, measuring instruments and more.
Providing a collection of material which is available to all teachers, makes this project highly effective and reduces its costs; any teacher who has worked with the material may function as a supervisor/advisor to others.

„Bezpečná Komunita“- Safe Community
In April 2005, the primary school Zachar Kroměřiž in the Czech Republic was announced International Safe School. The programme International Safe Schools is a part of larger movement the World Health Organisation Safe Community movement, formally started in 1989 and located at the WHO Centre Community Safety Promotion in Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Hearing Health provides material for teachers in compulsory schools to enhance the knowledge of their pupils about noise, their sound environment and about the protection of hearing damage.
Hearing Health for the Compulsory School consists of two parts, each of which has been adapted to a different age group and intended for use in teaching.
The factual sections do not claim to cover the subject area comprehensively, but rather aim to function as basic information and sources of inspiration in areas which may be explored in greater depth. The material can be integrated with and used in various subject areas such as music, visual arts, biology and physics.

This project of the construction supervision council of the canton Zurich wants to sensitize pupils and give them knowledge about noise. The speech “You are, what you listen to!” or the theatre “Threatened by the noise mafia…” offer an effective noise experience for teenagers aged 15 years and serve as an introduction of the theme noise.
The speech can be heald in front of the pupils, the theatre production approaches the topic in a funny, satirical way by watching two secret agents hunting the noise Mafia...

“Safe School with PZU”
| Bild: | “Safe School with PZU” is organized under the patronage of the Ministry of National Education and Sport, National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Main Police Command, and Onet.pl.Experts from those institutions worked out materials which would be easy to understand for pupils. “Safe School with PZU” is the only campaign in Poland realized on so large scale and engaging so many institutions and people. It is a continuation of other big prevention campaigns organized by PZU, which should improve safety on Polish roads.

The "Foundation for Listening", founded by the Hessischer Rundfunk and Bayerischer Rundfunk, Germany, wants to teach people how to listen. It wants to give children, adolescents and adults positive listening experiences, and intends to do so by using contemporary teaching methods.
The project "Listening in Listening Schools" won the 3rd price at the 6th Training & Innovation from 7th to 8th July 2006 at the BG Institute Work and Health (BGAG) in Dresden

It is the most wonderful task of architecture to create a home. Home means feeling yourself at home with body and soul. In order to reach this, however, we all have to show concern for our direct social and architectural environment with much more self-determination and imagination.
With its "hands-on design of spaces" scheme, Bunte Kuh e.V. regularly conducts different architectural projects using clay, water and fire in problem districts and in education facilities.

A bird as a symbol for childrens´safety campaigns
Pellekaija Pum is an exotic and rare bird. It is distantly related to a parrot. Pellekaija Pum is bumbling around in all kinds of dangerous situations and the children must give him advice so that he will not hurt himself.
The advice is often in the form of songs dealing with fire safety, falling, poisoning, sharp tool hazards and traffic safety. The children learn to prevent and avoid hazards and to act correctly if an accident occurs.

Can children and teenagers discriminate safe from dangerous behaviours?
'Mister Help' is the title of a TV programme by Rai Educational and Ispesl (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Prevention), which was broadcast on Rai 3 and via satellite.
This programme was aimed at children and teenagers attending compulsory education (aged 6-15), to convey among young people a clear message on issues related to safety.
