Croatian Institute for Health Protection and Safety at Work (CIHPSW), was established in 2009 in the capital town of Croatia, Zagreb. CIHPSW is an independent  institution at the national level working in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH).
The main goal of CIHPSW is to develop and disseminate knowledge on sustainable and healthy work. The institute is divided into three sections dealing with occupational health, safety at work and education and information dissemination. The team work within CIHPSW is based on multidisciplinary approach including professionals with broad experience in occupational medicine and safety at work. CIHPSW collaborates with governmental bodies, public institutions, workers´ and employers´ organisations.

Since it gained independence in 1992, Croatia has faced emerging economy and strong tourist activity. With Croatia's EU accession in 2013, key structural reforms are being monitored and performed in fields such as health and pension system, system of state aid, and privatization of state property. EU accession should at the same time result in accelerating fiscal and other structural reforms.
Health care standard in Croatia is mainly satisfactory, with better accessibility to health care facilities in major cities. Range of health services rendered in remote areas and islands is less, but still within acceptable.
Due to commonly rising costs of health care, especially expenditure on drugs, Croatia health care system is accompanied by lack of budget funds for health care, which so far has not affected drug supply within public health care institutions in Croatia.

The primary activity of the Zagreb University College of Applied Sciences in Safety, is the higher education of Safety experts in the area of Safety at Work, Fire Protection and Environmental Protection. The university wants to spread ideas and transfer knowledge of modern integrated approach to safety through education and training of safety experts, labor representatives, employers and their beneficiaries.
The vision is to create a respectable institution of higher education in the field of integral security in Croatia, which provides education and training in two directions in a three-year study and the first stage of higher education, with a specialization into three directions on the second level. The aim is to create a profile and integrate safety experts in all segments of society.
