Within the scope of the European Week 2006, the Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (Baua), is holding a symposium on the 23rd October 2006. The title is: "Apprentices as knowledge-workers in the company...
...an utopia or a new perspective for integrating occupational safety and health into vocational education effectively?"

Preconditions for vocational beginners are at hand. They are committed, enquiring and move around naturally in the new media culture. At the same time, they are endued with an explicit knowledge about safety and health.
But, how can this knowledge be interlinked with individual development of competence during the vocational training?

The event "Apprentices as knowledge-workers in the company" shows multimedia-based approaches to this issue in Europe. Examples that have already been tested in vocational practice will also be shown. These examples evidence that the knowledge of the apprentices can be used companywide. New educational approaches are connecting questions of safety and health to the contents of the apprentice-scheme effectively.

The approaches that are presented here offer new perspectives for joint strategies to the actors of vocational education, occupational safety and health and staff management.

Target groups of this symposium are:

* Teachers at vocational schools
* Operational trainers
* Specialists in occupational safety and health
* Medics in occupational medicine
* Staff developers
* Staff councils
